VIDEO: Deep-Sea Food Fall Let’s Scientists See What Happens To Alligators On The Ocean Floor

In order to figure out what creatures would have eaten ancient creatures related to alligators, like mososaurs, scientists dropped an alligator carcass dozens of miles off the coast of Louisiana.

Once they dropped the gator nearly two miles deep, it didn’t take long for them to find out. In less than 24 hours they were able to observe giant deep-sea isopods (basically giant Roly Poly’s that eat dead animals) making a feast out of the reptile.

Honestly, it looks more like a bunch of lobster tails eating an alligator carcass — which makes us look at surf n’ turf in a whole new way.
