Metallica Singer Leaves Bay Area to Escape ‘Elitist Attitudes’ and Enjoy Hunting and Nature

Lead singer of Metallica, James Hetfield, decided to move from the San Francisco Bay Area to the mountains of Vail, Colorado, saying an ‘elitist’ attitude drove him away.

The Metallica frontman revealed why he left Northern California after many years of calling it home in an interview with radio talk show host Joe Rogan.

“I kind of got sick of the Bay Area, the attitudes of the people there, a little bit,” Hetfield said.

Hetfield went on to say that even though people in the area love to say how diverse they are, it’s not exactly true.

“They talk about how diverse they are, and things like that, and it’s fine if you’re diverse like them. But showing up with a deer on the bumper doesn’t fly in Marin County.”

“My form of eating organic doesn’t vibe with theirs.”

He went on to say how people are looked down upon in the Bay Area unless their political, environmental and religious views matched those around them.

Hetfield loves Vail, especially since it’s quiet and allows for all the hunting and nature he can handle, without the judgment. Even though he’s leaving due to some issues, Hetfield still loves almost everything about his former city he called home.

“I love the ocean, and I love the Bay Area, I love what it’s got to offer, but there’s just an attitude that it was… It wasn’t healthy for me,” he said. “I was starting to feel like I was just fighting all the time, and I just had to get out of my own head.”

“So Colorado does it for me.”
