Two Men Charged with 73 Counts of Illegal Hunting Could Face Over $50,000 in Fines and Jail Time

Two men face numerous charges after killing almost a dozen deer and discarding the carcasses.

John Gallano IV and Christopher Johnson will face charges after a year long investigation into their crimes which racked up a total of 73 counts of illegal deer hunting.

It’s been a while since authorities have seen a case of illegal hunting this serious in Maryland.

“This definitely ranks up there among the top,” said Acting Lt. Aaron Parker, with Maryland Dept. of Natural Resources Police.

Gallano and Johnson killed eight deer in just a few hours while driving across multiple counties in October of 2015. The men used a crossbow and a spotlight to help disorient the deer.

“The most shocking part of this, is the fact that all they did was dump the deer. Most times we run into poachers,” said Lt. Parker.

It’s shocking indeed. These men are a disgrace to hunters everywhere and are part of the issue that makes some view hunters who abide by the law in a negative light.

Residents in Anne Arundel County are angry over the incident, since the men dumped most of the dead deer in Pasadena neighborhoods.

“I would’ve never thought the deer would be dumped back there, it’s crazy,” said resident Ray Truelove.

Hopefully these men will face justice for their ridiculous actions. Both men could face over $50,000 in fines in addition to jail time.

Gallano was charged with trespassing, hunting deer with spotlights, nighttime hunting, hunting from a vehicle, shooting from on across a road, hunting within a safety zone, hunting on private land, failing to report a kill, wanton waste of deer, false entry in a public record and illegal dumping. He is due in Anne Arundel County District Court Oct. 11, in Baltimore County District Court Nov. 14, and in Howard County District Court Nov. 17.

Johnson was charged with trespassing, hunting deer with spotlights, nighttime hunting, hunting from a vehicle, shooting from on across a road, hunting within a safety zone, hunting on private land, failing to report a kill, wanton waste of deer, possessing a loaded crossbow in a vehicle, false entry in a public record and illegal dumping. He is due in Baltimore County District Court Nov. 14 and Howard County District Court Nov. 17.
