Koi are Being Killed by Cash Throwing Visitors

The Koi in a pond located in Yantai City are being killed off at an alarming rate by Chinese tourists who bombard the pond with money on a daily basis as they wish for luck. Since the koi fish is a symbol of good fortune in Asia, this money throwing will go on for a while – though signs warning of the danger have been posted around the pond. It goes to show telling someone not to do something has the opposite affect.

These fish work hard for their money – too bad it’s killing them. Located in Shandong, China, the city is a popular spot for tourism, so it doesn’t look like the koi will be spared anytime soon. At this rate, either the visitors will finally listen, or they’ll kill all the koi. Either way, the money throwing can’t go on forever.

With the popular Qingming festival fast approaching, the situation will likely get worse before it gets better.
