Lightning Nearly Strikes 16-Year-Old Fisherman on His Boat

After coming this close to getting struck by lightning, I’d have a hard time going outside for a while, unless there wasn’t a cloud in the sky.

Tucker Owings, 16, and his friend are lucky this wasn’t their last fishing trip after a bolt of lightning came mere yards from striking their boat while on Lake Athens in Texas.

“We were literally feeling what I would describe as static on our rods,” said Tucker. “At that point we quickly started to head to the ramp.

The footage, filmed on a windshield mounted GoPro, shows the entire incident – the crackling electricity from the strike is easily heard in the video.

After the close call, Tucker said he had a headache for the rest of the day.

“I couldn’t tell you if the sound barrier hit me or if it was the actual charge of the explosion. But my hair was definitely standing on end,” he said. “It scared me because it came out of nowhere.”

“I am one of the youngest professionals in the fishing industry and just learned a very important lesson. I am thankful God protected us.”
